I am starting my final piece very soon and need some ideas.. It has to be based around butterflies, as long as the butterfly is somewhere on the picture then it's fine. I can do sculptures or collage or mixed media or anything really.. Just having trouble thinking up ideas.. Soo annoying. Thanks in advance, anything is welcome. x

  1. Cut a load of butterfly shapes out of tissue paper, and overlap them all. All the different coloured papers would overlap and make new colours. I think it'd be cool.

  2. clay?

  3. - Create a hanging 3D mobile oh a butterfly constructed out of wire and paper flowers

    - Take lots of pictures of butterflies and then construct a college out of them

    - Create a 3D 'butterfly house' out of flowers, and then create butterflies to put in it

I hope these can give you some further inspiration! x

  4. i take it thats natural forms.  what about working on the basis of painting on one half and folding it over. you could work on mirror images, parralel lines etc. do something really different and original.

    or

i made a video of a plastecine man moving using still image, you could do something like that with a butterfly flying

  5. If you can use photoshop it could be interesting to have an outline of a human in black on white  with  a large butterfly shaped paper curled into shape  with as many species of butterfly making up the wing patterns - attached to it as if it were alighting on it -  like saying that butterflies are connected/make a oneness in a way humanity isnt/doesnt.

  6. Wings made from mirrors and sweet wrappers

  7. You could try doing a repeating pattern of the butterfly. Start of with a big butterfly in the middle & then gradually get smaller towards the outside.

Do each section the same colour

*i hope that makes sense, does in my head LOL.

  8. Just do anything, its a pice of cake to pass this garbage qualification. I have a 2-1 degree in electrical engineering, now thats tough.

  9. my step-dad is an artist and he has a collection of paintings called 'The Butterfly' and he does an outline of  butterfly with different things that represent his life inside its body. :)

    just an idea! :)

  10. This is pretty boring, but I'm just throwing it out there......a collection of Butterfly photographs, taken by yourself if possible.....arranged in a collage shaped as a butterfly?

If u live near longleat go the butterfly house lol take some pictures.....sorted?

Hope that was of inspiration or help :)

  11. Some kind of mixed media piece, maybe mix lino printing with painting and collage for example?

I like the idea of filling the butterfly shape with things important to you, maybe another take on that could be what you feel butterflies represent?

  12. Let your ideas come from what a butterfly represents to you. Start with ideas, materials come later - they are just means to an end.

    Starters:

    Metaphorically:

    Butterflies in the tummy

The flutter of a butterfly wing in china leads to a storm here

Butterflies and myth/fables etc. Butterflies in folklore

or take aspect from actual butterflies - like how the patterns on their wings evolved - why they look like they do, beautiful in our eyes - but for defence reasons mostly in reality. Perhaps juxtapose it with human defence ideas?

or how fragile their wings are, make something equally fragile, something one perhaps would like to touch, but if one did it would fall apart or disintegrate.

Read a little about butterflies and you'll find ideas, just use them as a starting point and let your mind run free. As long as you can motivate your piece, with your ideas and findings, you'll do fine.

  13. Maybe you could do loads of butterflys on a canvas, which oddly make the shape of a womans face when you stand futher back. It'd be hard work, but it would look good.

Or you could design a white dress and put bright coloured butterflys on it.

    I'm taking GCSE art. :)

  14. Paint like an image of a butterfly collector's thing dont know what they put them in a book not too sure though.

Then for each butterfly you could give their pattern something to do with global warming. I heard global warming is declining the butterfly populations.
