GCSE coursework- methodology ideas?

the cswk is about whether the CBD of a city fits the burgess model. I already have things like land use surveys, pedestrian density counds, environmental quality survey and questionnaires, but i need at least one more to get full marks. Any ideas welcome, the more origional the better!

  1. Can you get a quote from a Journal in there somewhere? Markers love to see a Journal article that is no on the reading list.


  2. The Burgess model posits that the further away from the CBD the district the wealthier the inhabitants. It might work for modern cities but it is nonsense for historic towns and cities: Traditionally inner cities were so polluted that they were undesirable - with clean air acts that has largely disappeared - though the concentration of motorviehicle pollution has increse dramaticaly. When we all have to give up our cars - being within walking distance of the centre may be a big plus - commuting is a grim reality of modern cities. You could try to assess rental or real estate figures for comparable sizes of properties relative to the distance from the CBD (check estate agent's or realtor's lists).
