Question:

GERMAN: how do you say "to want" ??

I learned some German phrases from a "traveler's german" type of CD. One of the phrases was "I want something to eat" and I want to know what the word was (written form).

It started with m, and the second letter was a vowel with an umlaut. Don't know which one, though (ä ö or ü). The next part was -chte.

Fill in the blank for me please! "Ich m-chte etwas essen."

And, second part of the question, does it re-translate back into English as "I want..."?
