i have a reciepe from a friend in germany that asks for a packet of baking powder, how many grams is this?

If it's a "Packung" (Pck.) , it's 15-16 gram.

First of all: baking powder is NOT baking soda, as used in the US. You may replace it by baking soda, however, but mind that German baking powder ("Backpulver") is more acidic than pure baking soda. "One packet" I'd translate as 2 and a half grams, or half a teaspoon. To get the real taste from the German recipe, when you use baking soda, I'd add some grated lemon shell, or a slight amount of lemon juice.
