GFA president Dr Theo Zwanziger insists Michael Ballack’s career not over yet
German Football Association president Dr Theo Zwanziger has stated that Michael Ballack’s international career for Germany is not yet over.
The 34-year-old has had to deal with a string of injury problems and he has not featured for Germany for more than a year now. However, Zwanziger is hopeful the player will make a return to his international side soon.
Zwanziger said, “Nobody knows if he will make it - he is coming towards the end of his career, but he is not an old drag. He is still the captain of Germany and, given his performances in the past, we owe him an option of a return- a player who has done
so much for German football deserves the chance to come back.”
Ballack has been one of the most influential players for Germany over the years and has captained his country on numerous occasions. The Bayern Leverkusen midfielder has 98 caps for his national team and has 42 goals to his name.
The German has represented top European clubs in his career including the likes of Kaiserslautern, Bayern Leverkusen, Bayern Munich and Chelsea. With English Premier League side Chelsea, Ballack enjoyed enormous success, scoring 26 goals for the Blues in
105 appearances.
Injuries and lack of form have hampered Ballack’s progress and with his age, many pundits believe that his international career may be over.
Ballack was forced to miss out on http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786 in the FA Cup final in 2010. A string of injuries followed and so far, the German has been able to make just 10 appearances
for his current club Bayern Leverkusen in the ongoing 2010-11 season.
Things are looking better for the German star nevertheless. In recent few games for Leverkusen, Ballack has put in some good performances and received praise from Germany coach Joachim Low.
A call up to the German squad is possible if Ballack puts in some good performances for his club and remains match fit.
