GI Bill and the wait for it

I got out of the army national guard sept.2007, but then I joined back up feb.2008. Right now I am trying to get my gi bill benefits but it is taking forever......They have everything ready and KNOW I am entitled benifits but they have to wait on DoD to verify (even though they even say its an open and shut case with me getting my 1607 kicker since I went back in a year or less)

This is so annoying since I NEED the money and I have been waiting for like 2 months. I thought it only took along time the first time you used it. Anyone else stuck and waiting on DoD ? Also any suggestions?

  1. Usually takes several months, but if you NEED it to attend school, then my suggestion is to get a job!

  2. It takes awhile for it to kick in.  When you know you need the money for something, you have to plan in advance, you know how the military can take, but love having you wait.

When I wanted mine to kick in, I waited almost an entire semester.  Thing is, even when you are given the 'green light' to use it, you will have to pay to start your class basically.  If you are starting the Fall semester in September, then you are on your own for paying that semester.  Your benefits will not kick in until the end of the month, when you verify your enrollment and you have to verify it EVERY month in order to get your money, or it just sits until you do verify it. This website you will have to use every month:

    https://www.gibill.va.gov/wave/

Once you verify, if takes about a week to get your money in your account.  If you are going to college, you usually start registration in November and must pay prior to the end of  the semester.  I saved my money, and paid out of that money instead of blowing it, and having to come out of my pockets.
