  1. It's mildly famous for being the place where the first Mc Donald's in Germany opened, but that's trivia rather than actual knowledge.

    Giesing was first mentioned in 790 AD, which makes it older than Munich itself. It used to be a farming village, which became part of the city of Munich around 1850. On one of the Giesing cemeteries, the members of teh White Rose are buried - that was a well-known group of students who were executed for fighting against the n**i regime.

    The site also says that after WW 2, an area mainly populated by US citizens grew around McGraw barracks. Ever since 1956 they hold a "Little Oktoberfest" around the 4th of July - a tradition that is still alive, even now that US troops are no longer stationed there.
