  1. first you open the gimp and select file in the drop down box select

open to select your picture. and do the same thing again so that you

have two of the same picture`s. On the first picture use the clone tool

for what ever part of the picture that you want to show though the transparency.

If you don`t know how to use the clone tool here is a good tutorial that

    can help you.

And then you cut out the second picture with the Rectangle tool found in your gimp tool box start at one of the corner`when you cut it out. It will be the square box and paste it on to the the first picture that you used the clone tool on. And then use the Opacity bar to make it what ever transparence you want it to be. Once you have the transparency

that you want go to layer`s at the top of your layer`s box and click on the arrow click on layer`s menu and click on anchor layer`s and then save your picture to where you want to save it.

I hope this can help you.
