  1. It is true.

  2. Global warming refers to an average increase in the Earth's temperature, which in turn causes changes in climate. A warmer Earth may lead to changes in rainfall patterns, a rise in sea level, and a wide range of impacts on plants, wildlife, and humans. When scientists talk about the issue of climate change, their concern is about global warming caused by human activities.

    Ideas:

    Explain the 'The Greenhouse Effect'.

    What is the climate system?

Can we change the climate? Explain how.

What happens when the temperature rises? What can happen and what can we do to stop the green house effect?

  3. Global warming is a scam for your money.

  4. Global warming is not being caused by man. It is a natural process and has been on a fairly consistent cycle for thousands of years.

  5. Think this person said it best:

Stephen Schneider (leading advocate of the global warming theory)

(in interview for Discover magazine, Oct 1989):

"We have to offer up scary scenarios, make simplified, dramatic statements, and make little mention of any doubts we may have. Each of us has to decide what the right balance is between being effective and being honest."

It displays their TOTAL DISREGARD for the TRUTH!

  6. It is amazing that the whole global warming trend is a statistical number game when you come to realize that all the measuring equipment has a +/-.5 degree error and they say the earth has warmed up .1 degree. Just remember that the average deviation on the thermometers used is +/- .5 degrees. and they try to average out the data. You can’t get a better result using coarser data. That’s a fact.

If they don’t have data for a day/month they just “add” data to fill in the missing spots.

So most of the time the data they use is data that has been corrupted to fit the results that global warming is real.

So what can tell us if we are facing a global climate change?

The answer has always been in the tree's (No kidding it is called growth rings) a unbiased record that proves that it just a cyclic event.

No scientist has used growth rings (as far as I know) to prove global warming. Reason: some of the redwoods in California are as old as 1000 years. And yes they prove that the climate shifts from time to time each century, without the intervention of man.

I just think it is funny that the GW crowd's favorite data set is now 8 years old that proves global warming and when they start adding in the data after 1999-2007 the whole trend is lost.

How do you think the research scientists get paid to do their job? It is by the person or group or company that has the biggest gain from their “Research”

Sad but true. Just remember that research scientists don’t do their work for free. Right now the biggest grants being handed out "Courtesy of the UN and the US Congress" is for research into Global Warming

How much is Al Gore getting paid in kickbacks in the "Carbon Offset" company he owns?

Why would you disprove something if by doing so you stop getting paid?

I crunched the numbers on the buoy data that "proves global warming" guess what, they use a 8 year old data set to prove their facts! Once you figure in the next 8 years their global warming goes out the window.

If you want to do a report that will help the earth talk about the Atlantic and Pacific Gyres.

Google Pacific Gyre and see the damage done in the oceans  in the vast area of open water. After seeing them first hand and the lack of algae and seaweed, Trash floating for miles and the sea clouded with plastic, it is enough to tear your soul out. The gyre areas where once some of our best CO2 filtration sites, along with the deforestation of the rain forests to produce bio fuel and the CO2 production related, Man has had a larger impact on the CO2 cycle by filling the gyres with plastic.

I have always wondered why the Eco crowd has neglected these areas.  Just because they are out of sight and out of mind to most of them, does not mean that they should be forgotten. Of course there is little money in Gyre clean up, you can’t sell Plastic offsets to the general public.

Do your homework and realize what an inquiring mind will find when it is free of bias,

The global warming crowd has always been about making money, they let the press talk about it, and the government to fund bad science.

  7. There are many basic scientific facts which can only be explained if the current global warming is being caused by an increased greenhouse effect due to carbon dioxide accumulating in the atmosphere from humans burning fossil fuels.

For example, the planet is warming as much or more during the night than day.  If the warming were due to the Sun, the planet should warm a lot more during the day when the Sun has influence.  Greenhouse gases trap heat all the time, so they warm the planet regardless of time of day.  Another example is that the upper atmosphere is cooling because the greenhouse gases trap the heat in the lower atmosphere.  If warming were due to the Sun, it would be warming all layers of the atmosphere.

We know it's warming, and we've measured how much:

    http://www.epa.gov/climatechange/science...

Scientists have a good idea how the Sun and the Earth's natural cycles and volcanoes and all those natural effects change the global climate, so they've gone back and checked to see if they could be responsible for the current global warming.  What they found is:

Over the past 30 years, all solar effects on the global climate have been in the direction of (slight) cooling, not warming.  This is during a very rapid period of global warming.

    http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/62902...

    http://www.pubs.royalsoc.ac.uk/media/pro...

    A recent study concluded:

“the range of  [Northern Hemisphere]-temperature reconstructions and natural forcing histories…constrain the natural contribution to 20th century warming to be <0.2°C [less than one-third of the total warming].  Anthropogenic forcing must account for the difference between a small natural temperature signal and the observed warming in the late 20th century.”

    http://www.pnas.org/cgi/content/full/104...

You can see this in the third graph here, where the dotted lines are just from natural causes, and the full lines are natural + human causes:

    http://www.pnas.org/content/vol104/issue...

If that’s not enough to convince you the Sun isn’t responsible, consider the fact that no scientific study has ever attributed more than one-third of the warming over the past 30 years to the Sun, and most attribute just 0-10% to the Sun.

    http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;...

So the Sun certainly isn't a large factor in the current warming.  They've also looked at natural cycles, and found that we should be in the middle of a cooling period right now.

"An often-cited 1980 study by Imbrie and Imbrie determined that 'Ignoring anthropogenic and other possible sources of variation acting at frequencies higher than one cycle per 19,000 years, this model predicts that the long-term cooling trend which began some 6,000 years ago will continue for the next 23,000 years.'"

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Milankovitc...

    http://www.sciencemag.org/cgi/content/ab...

So it's definitely not the Earth's natural cycles.  They looked at volcanoes, and found that

    a) volcanoes cause more global cooling than warming, because the particles they emit block sunlight

    b) humans emit over 150 times more CO2 than volcanoes annually

    http://volcano.und.edu/vwdocs/Gases/man....

So it's certainly not due to volcanoes.  Then they looked at human greenhouse gas emissions.  We know how much atmospheric CO2 concentrations have increased over the past 50 years:

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Mauna...

And we know from isotope ratios that this increase is due entirely to human emissions from burning fossil fuels.  We know how much of a greenhouse effect these gases like carbon dioxide have, and the increase we've seen is enough to have caused almost all of the warming we've seen over the past 30 years (about 80-90%).  You can see a model of the various factors over the past century here:

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Clima...

This is enough evidence to convince almost all climate scientists that humans are the primary cause of the current global warming.

  8. I think that G.W. is caused by humans and the natural environment

  9. The earth has been warming and cooling for all ages, by mechanisms we are far from understanding. I find it a little fishy that all of a sudden we are the cause of something, that obviously already has a cause. In my lifetime, I've seen the rise of the green movement and introduced to holidays such as Earth Day. These are not bad things and I'm glad there are people dedicated to keeping our earth habitable. I think many of  these people feel their voices have not been heard, so naturally they are drawn to something that will give them a voice. I don't blame these people, their kind of the Robin Hoods in this story. There are others like Al Gore, who have seized on the hysteria and have already sought ways to benefit themselves "carbon credits" and the like. Al gives a rat's about the environment. When the believers declared the debate over and I heard quotes from seemingly respectable scientists who said they were being black-balled for being skeptical, my suspicion of fraud only deepened. The science is very hard to interpret by layman and scientists alike. You could be convinced by either side. Ultimately, we layman must rely on science to give us truth. That, to me is why this issue is so important. This is about more than our environment, it is about a quest for truth.
