half the population thinks that global warming is something thats happening in the world right now. Its because of our pollution and attitudes towards the environment that our world is slowly...going down the toilet??...the other half thinks that global warming is just a theory; that its another thing like the big bang that you can choose to believe or find a different way to explain it. Whats your take?

  1. If the governments are that worried about it, they need to stop charging more duty and tax and start using the money to make alternative fuel cheaper!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! and especially public transport in UK is just unbelievable

  2. whether it is true or false, the important things is that we do need to start getting serious about taking care of the Environment.

  3. We are going down the toilet!

  4. *sigh* it's a natural process that the earth goes through. it's got nothing to do with "O, YOU HAVE TO RECYCLE THAT TISSUE OR ELSE THE EARTH WILL BE SET ABLAZE!". it's just the earth's way of regulating itself. it just means we're going into a new [unavoidable] ice age. the earth does this every so often. so worry about carbon emissions if you want, but there's quite a bit of evidence that Gore paid off some scientists to agree with him and that carbon emissions don't effect the o-zone. really, i don't think we have anything to worry about. and even if there was anything to worry about, we're gonna be dead before anything happens to us.

  5. It's real!

I live in Texas and it is hotter than it was last year!

  6. Hello!

Global warming is a real threat to us. Some may argue that it is merely a "theory", and that we need not bother. A careful look around the world today will only reveal a few tell-tale signs of global warming or the effects therein. The Suraj Ganga glazier is the largest of its kind in the world. It is situated in the Himalayas. Over the past decade it is has decreased in size by over 20%. This may not seem like an abonimable figure. However, if you consider that this glazier has decreased in size by only 2% every thousand years until the past decade may raise a few eye brows! This is not an isolated case, sadly. The signs are evident from India to the Americas.

Also, our dependency on fossil fuels is not lessening. This is in part due to governmental apathy. "Clean fuels" like hydrogen and electricty are only now being used to power automobiles. With a lot more support from the different government policies, auto makers will provide more impetus to this alternative.

The onus is upon each one of us to stabilize the situation, and hopefully someday reverse it! We can all take small steps to save the Earth. For instance, we can switch off electrical appliances when not in use; instead of putting it on "stand-by". We can walk/cycle short distances instead of driving. Usage of public transport too will help.

Well, thats my view and I personally follow whatever I have mentioned above and I sincerely hope that we all do our part instead of contemplating whether global warming is a reality or not.

    Regards,

    Vinay

  7. Behind the Green Curtain (Environmentalism for landgrab)

Our right to own property is at the core of freedom and liberty. Simply put, if you can’t own property, you become property! Is the environmental movement really concerned with protecting nature or is there a hidden agenda to control and eliminate private property? Who is behind this movement? Are the constitutional rights of ordinary citizens being systematically violated?

Behind The Green Curtain blows back the green veil hiding the environmental movement. It reveals a dark, cynical reality of the movement unconcerned about nature and the environment. It focuses on the mega-foundations and the financial elite behind them. Learn about their hidden agenda of power, control and the goal of eliminating private property altogether!

  8. In my opinion,

Global warming is a term for the natural process of the earth.

The earth goes through natural cycles of heating and cooling, it's last was what we know as the ice age. So, the next would clearly be "Global Warming". Yet, i do believe, that we are definitely speeding up this process.

  9. The potential for danger is grossly exaggerated.  It has become an ignorant religious crusade for leftists seeking to punish any prosperity.  Astonishingly ignorant claims by really stupid politicians are being treated as gospel by the flocks of self-haters that want to think they are smarter and care more than everyone else.  They are the same doomsday cultists that have existed since before the time of the Romans.  It seems to make them feel their life is very important because they are living in the last days.  It should be labeled as some sort of mental condition that always seems to afflict a sizable percentage of the population.  If they found a gene that caused the condition, they would probably blame it on global warming..

  10. It is hogwash!!

  11. Yes global warming is "just a theory".

The structure of the atom is also "just a theory". No-one has ever actually filmed it, or held one in their hand.

The explanation for how gravity works is "just a theory". No-one has detected gravity waves, though the theory says they must exist.

That microbes cause disease is "just a theory". Much is unknown about the exact mechanisms microbes use to cause disease.

That current flow is the movement of electrons is "just a theory". No-one has ever actually observed an electron jumping across copper atoms in a wire.

Plate tectonics is "just a theory", but we strongly suspect they cause earthquakes.

They're all "just theories". The only thing that varies with theories is how much scientific evidence supports them.

While global warming is still in its relatively early stages as a theory, it is no less valid than any other. There is a lot of evidence that excessive greenhouse gas emissions since the industrial age are having an effect on global climate. There have been a lot of counter-arguments, but climate scientists have so far explained every one of them (even if many global warming sceptics seem to gratuitously ignore those explanations).

I concede that there has been unnecessary scaremongering from some people. However nothing changes the fact that human and industrial emissions are massively polluting the atmosphere on a scale never before seen in the planets history. For crying out loud, there are 7 BILLION of us all doing our bit to pollute the place. That is NOT a small number, especially when you look at the magnifying effect of how we pollute.

That it will have an effect on the planet is, I would've thought, pretty obvious to any sensible person. The uncertainty is how big that effect will be, and how it can be managed. They are the uncertainties in global warming theory at the moment, but I'm sure they will be answered in time, just as the uncertainties with other theories are.

One thing is for sure though. Going by the other ecological disasters and mishaps we've directly caused over decades of industrialisation and general lack of caring about anything, we humans are certainly stupid enough to send the planet down the toilet.

  12. Well actually, we ourselves, as an irresponsible citizens of the United States are the cause of the global warming... Why? It's because some of us are just to lazy to go out there into the  "real world" and do something about it... Instead, we sit our bums in our comfty couch or sit answering or asking questions here on yahoo! answers...  I hope I answer your question...

  13. So half the population is wrong. I would side with the half that has all the evidence and scientific consensus on its side.

Your use of the word "theory" is a very common problem in popular scientific discussion. Theories are not "just theories", but rather frameworks and ideas in which we think about things. In science, you can't just decide which theory to use on a whim, theories should be chosen which best fit the evidence. Your definition of theory sounds more like those of the words "conjecture" or "speculation".

  14. My take is that he people behind man-made global warming are doing it for money. As long as there is a divide in the peoples thinking, global warming will become very profitable.

I don’t think ethics has much to do with it, so saving the planet is just a ruse to scare people into accepting government intervention, in the form of new taxes and regulations, all in the name of saving the Earth.

Many people talk about how the church manipulates is followers. Well, maybe the same will be said about the church of global warming.
