GM Jerry Dipoto talks about C.J. Wilson’s arrival in Los Angeles Angels
The Los Angeles Angels’ new general manager Jerry Dipoto is sitting pretty easy in this offseason after completing all important job of bringing some experienced players in the franchise.
Recently, Dipoto was involved in two big deals, in which former St. Louis Cardinals’ ace slugger Albert Pujols and Texas Rangers star pitcher C.J. Wilson have made their arrival in the Angels 40-man roster for next potential seasons.
Dipoto, who is now looking ahead of next Major League season with complete positivity, gave an interview to a renowned newspaper in Los Angeles and explained the facts about the acquisition.
He briefly talked about C.J. Wilson and how he was persuaded by the Angels' top management earlier after many teams already had offered good deals. Dipoto also told the interviewer how he negotiated with C.J. Wilson’s agent for a potential contract when he was reluctant to agree on salary.
Dipoto stated, “They were all going simultaneously and we were drawing them to conclusion in a six- to eight-hour period. It's a credit to Arte and our baseball people, Scott Servais, John Carpino . . . and a credit to the agents. The amount of work they went through. Looking back, it was entertaining. On the final night, the hotel setup in Dallas [for the winter meetings] was two towers and we had Dan Lozano and [Wilson's agent] Bob Garber in different towers. Believe me, there was zero chance to get Lozano moved through the lobby to our tower.”
Wilson, a highly talented player having almost six years of Major League experience, possesses some huge baseball skills. His last year stats are also very dignified when he achieved 2.94 ERA with a 16-7 win loss record, 206 strike-outs and 1.19 WHIP.
Experts say that his arrival in the Angels roster is a good sign for their future season where every team will be coming with full preparation. These experts also point-out Wilson’s career 3.60 ERA along with 43 win-loss record, 637 strike-outs and 1.29 WHIP which will further increase his performance as well as the winning chances of the Angels.
