GM Mike Rizzo shows jubilation after Washington Nationals’ farm system named best in baseball
The Washington Nationals’ general manager Mike Rizzo is showing great jubilation as his team’s farm system got top recognition from Baseball America leaving their lowest place ranking with pride. Before them, the Cleveland Indians were enjoying this precious honour.
General Manager Mike Rizzo said in a press conference, “This is a huge day, we should make a big deal of this. It’s probably more important to me than a lot of other GMs. I was that grunt area scout making $14,000 a year. They miss birthdays. They miss anniversaries.”
He added, “They’re on the road 150-200 days a year working for me. When the team is in Washington and you’re based in Southern California or Macon, Ga., I want to congratulate each and every one of you because this honour belongs to you. I am well aware this achievement is the direct result of a Scouting & Player Development staff.”
Last time, the Nationals were ranked the lowest among 29 Major League franchises. This is a great opportunity now for Washington’s team to show why their farm system is best. Many Nationals’ players, who later become superstars, are trained from the farm system in Washington and their affiliates.
For many it might look smooth sailing from Minor League to Major League, but if we look deep, only then will we be able to understand how tough this process is. Those who come directly in the Minor Leagues, usually play well later in the Major League.
In general, any farm system offers a great deal of training to Major League players while alternatively this is a backup for the big team during the season. A team, B team, farm system, Minor League and domestic setup for any sport is important. This is why every top team always puts great emphasis on junior level training facilities.
