GMac ready to turtle Martin Kaymer at Barclays Singapore Open
Graeme McDowell is eyeing yet another victory at the venue of the Barclays Singapore Open, which is in process at the Sentosa Golf Club, Singapore.
The winner of the Andalucía Valderrama Masters is posing a great threat to the leader of the Race to Dubai, Martin Kaymer. Both the men are standing back to back with a gap of 600,000 Euros and if McDowell wins the prize money
from the event, then he will outcast the world number three.
"My goal is to go to Dubai as close to I can possibly be to Martin for the chance to win the Race to Dubai. We were pretty close last week [in China] but a huge week this week can punch a hole in his lead,” said Mc Dowell while
talking to the press on Wednesday.
Last week, the winner of the US Open 2010 surged into lead at the 11th hour to elevate the points he possessed. Although, he was the last choice of the experts, but McDowell made good use of Kaymer’s anxiety and made
his way up.
Both the veterans are competing for the biggest title in European Tour, which will end with the Dubai World Championship. It follows the same agenda as that of the FedEx series and Charles Schwab Championship in which the winner
gets a bonus.
Once again, the duo will meet on the tees of the Sentosa Golf Club, where the event will decide the possible winner of the bonus. The event carrying a purse of US$1 million will be divided into two halves; the first three rounds
will be staged on the Serapong Course, whereas, the last round will take place on the Tanjong course. This will help in testing the real potential of the lead.
Commenting on the play, the Irish said, “I love the Serapong Course, where three of the four rounds will be played. It's tricky and testing off the tee and therefore positional play is the key to a good score but I think that plays
to my strengths as I showed last year and I'm very happy with my game at the moment."
The 31-year-old veteran seized the fifth spot in a tie last year at the same venue. The fact synchronizes a notion that Graeme once again may finish in the top-five. However, the current form says the opposite. McDowell performed
terribly at the WGC- HSBC Champions, which took place in Shanghai and wrapped one shot behind Kaymer for the 34th spot. Therefore, a fact can be fabricated that none of the two will win the title this year.
Meanwhile, his Ryder Cup teammate, Martin Kaymer, is enthusiastic about Thursday’s round. The German has a fair idea that anyone of McDowell or Lee Westwood can steal his show at the last moment. Westwood is not teeing up at Singapore
Open, owing to his persistent calf injury, but this does not mean that he will not overthrow the leader. One more victory before the Dubai World Championship can earn him the bonus along with a new title.
On the other hand, the defending champion of the event is getting ready to tackle both the threats. Ian Poulter won the title last year with one stroke victory over Liang Wen-Chong. The 34-year-old is ready to grab his 10th
European title at the Sentosa Golf Club, which is suitable for long drivers like Poulter himself.
This is it for the news that states that Graeme McDowell is gearing up for the Barclays Singapore Open, which will take place at the twin courses of Sentosa Golf Club. The event will witness the battle between the two titans; however,
one more golfer can pose as a great threat and that is Phil Mickelson. What if neither Kaymer nor McDowell manages to win, instead Mickelson seizes the opportunity. In that case, what will happen to the Race to Dubai rankings?
