GNB Voc-Tech boys volleyball team defeats Wareham on Tuesday
Tuesday turned out to be a day to remember for the GNB Voc-Tech boys volleyball team as they were able to better their opponents, Wareham by defeating them in a clean sweep.
Not only was Voc-Tech able to defeat Wareham in three back to back sets, they did so in a decisive fashion. In each consecutive set of the game, Wareham lost by an increased margin.
By the time that the afternoon match had reached it close and Voc-Tech was celebrating its well deserved win by jumping with joy while Wareham was heading towards the lockers with slumped shoulders, the scoreboard read as 25-18, 25-17 and 25-9.
With their recent victory, the Bears have been able to improve their overall number of victories to a figure of seven. They have been able to achieve these wins at the cost of suffering a high amount of losses that total to be eight so far. As opposed to
the performance record of the Bears, the statistics of Wareham are not comparable at all. Wareham has not been able to secure even a single win so far. However, they have had various experiences of defeats which total to be 14 in all.
The first set of the match started with both the Bears as well as Wareham coming out strong. The two teams were almost neck-to-neck with each other for the early part of the game. However, as the game drew on, the Bears emerged in control of the court. They
kept on hammering down kills on Wareham who found it hard to put up an effective defence. As a result, the Bears bagged the first set of the match at 25-18.
Capitalising on the momentum built by winning the opening set of the game, the Bears were able to take control early on in the second set. Once they had the lead with themselves, the Bears kept on extending their advantage. All that Wareham could do was
to try to catch up. Consequently, the Bears also secured the second set of the match at 25-17.
Having lost the first two sets, the Bears found it hard to put up a significant challenge in the third game in order to turn things around. The Bears had the lead at 4-2 as well as 10-2. Therefore, it was not a hard job for them to seal the deal by taking
the third set of the game at 25-9.
After the match had ended the coach of the Bears, Matt Rodrigues, said, “Actually, this match was closer than the score. We went on a couple of runs and that's what volleyball is. When you're on a run, you want to keep it going. When the other team is on
a run, you've got to stop it.”
