GNB Voc-Tech boys volleyball team defeats Whalers on Tuesday at Randolph
Volleyball is not a sport that is only limited at the university level in the nation, it is also taken up seriously at the school level.
Various schools have vigorous training programs that aim to provide their students with an experience that would help to enhance their skill and increase their potential should they undertake to pursue volleyball later on in life.
As a result, even at the schools, the level of volleyball being played and highly competitive and thrilling to watch. Not only the boys but the girls also are a part of the training programs that various schools have inculcated in themselves.
One such team is the GNB Voc-Tech boys volleyball team who do not fail to impress any time they enter the court. This time around, the Voc-Tech was able to secure themselves a win in a match that left no doubt of their supremacy.
Not only were they able to hand out a defeat to the rivals by winning three back to back sets, the set scores by which the Bears made a clean sweep were smothering. As Tuesday’s match drew to its close and the Bears celebrated their grand win, the score
board told the story of the match in short form by displaying final set scores of 25-10, 25-7, 25-20.
As soon as the first set of the match started, it became clear that the Bear would not go easy on the Whalers. They started off by putting the pressure on the Whalers and taking a comfortable lead. To further strengthen their position in the match, the defence
of the Bears was performing exceptionally well and not letting any points through.
Crippled under a forceful attack and an impenetratable defence of the Bears, the Whalers could not do much to step up their game and present a considerable challenge to Voc-Tech. As a result, the Whalers ended up losing the first set of the match bitterly
to the Bears at 25-10.
Rather than try and redeem themselves, the performance of the Whalers experienced a further degradation in the second set of the match. They were unable to motivate themselves as the Bears charged on towards another, bitterer win at 25-7.
With two sets down, the Whalers showed some spark in the third set of the game. However, rather than becoming a fire that would take the match to a fourth set, it soon fizzled out as the Bears sealed the deal by bagging the third set of the match at 25-20.
“We've got two wins under our belts and Derek has been a big presence for us at the net with his blocking,” Voc-Tech coach Matt Rodrigues said. “A.J. is right where we expected him to be, Carlos is playing great defense in the back row, and Tyrell is a first-year
setter who's developing into one of our team leaders.”
