Alright so ive been doing some weight lifting, because i hate being so skinny (5'10", 118 pounds) and i chose to pick up some whey protein to give a little boost to my muscle gain...now, i know this stuff isnt supposed to taste good, but i actually have to hold my nose to down it! so does anyone have any tips as to how to make a better tasting post-workout protein "shake"? oh and its strawberry flavored.

i hear adding fruit makes a great tasting and carbohydrate filled shake?

  1. eat cottage cheese instead.  Its super protein-rich (14 grams per half cup), and it tastes great with defrosted frozen blueberries or stawberry-banana V8 Splash (at walmart)!!

  2. The first poster is on-point.  Protein from real food is better than processed protein, although whey protein is used by many bodybuilders and athletes to gain muscle mass.  From my reading of the articles and Internet blogs, you should only use whey protein for pre-and-post workout nutrition (IF you use it at all).

You might want to try making your own shakes.  You only need a blender, some whey protein powder (Champion Nutrition Pure Whey and Optimum Nutrition 100% Whey Gold Standard are the most popular among bodybuilders), skim milk, and frozen fruit like strawberries or blueberries with no sugar added.  One cup of skim milk plus one scoop of whey protein plus 3/4 cup frozen fruit makes a quick and pretty decent-tasting homemade whey protein shake.

  3. since you have the strawberry flavored is also great and you could add some more of it yourself, but there is also another Protein shake from GNC which is a weight gainer and is taste sweeter that iit has more carb in it , cholcolate is a great taste .

try mixing some ice cream in it and make it cholcolate .

  4. Try eating regular protein instead.  Try a chicken breast on the grill, or a ham sandwich, or baked fish.  Tastier, and it's almost pure protein.  What's not to like?

  5. EAS makes better tasting shakes.  I really enjoy the chocolate.  I'd suggest you try out different brands until you find something you do like the taste of.  The below website has lots of brands, many with more than just the three standard flavors.

This brand alone has 11 flavors.
