Question:

GNER: anyone noticed any difference since National Express took over?

GNER, formerly owned by Sea Containers, was widely recognised as the best train operating company going. I'd be interested to know if standards have dropped since National Express took it over recently.

  1. No not much, its still even run by the same control staff. They did however reduce some select fares for competition with other operating companies on the 2nd Jan 08 but other than the grey and white painted trains on the way its about the same.

  2. The only difference I've noticed is they seem to have reverted to older rolling stock. I've used it a few times since National Express took over and the trains have been the old style rattlers with the slam doors, and windows you can open in the vestibules. But personally I don't mind that. I've been a regular user of the East Coast Main Line for around nine years now and any problems I've ever encountered have been out of the TOC's hands. All in all it still seems to be a punctual, efficient service.

  3. Well, Wi-fi is now free, fares are about the same, staff are still friendly and curteous. If anything, I say its got better!
