OK,

So after many years of wanting to do it, I have finally decided that I want to begin playing Golf.

Please help me choose a golf set with bag from the following two sources (I am right handed):

Also, if anyone knows other Golf equipment stores in the Toronto / GTA area that sells reasonably priced golf equipment, please tell me.

Thank you in advance. Your efforts will be immensely appreciated.

God Bless

  1. As a former teacher of golf, there are several factors before picking a good set of clubs.

    First, your age

if you were young - steel shaft

if you were old - graphite shafts

Also, what you wish to spend on them:

I personally would find a set of clubs that run about $200 dollars.  Then when you take lessons (assuming you WILL TAKE LESSONS)  Then you will be ready for your actual set of clubs.

One thing to remember is that most good golfers and some not so good golfers will trade/sell their clubs every three years.  So your concerns right now is only if you really want to dedicate yourself to this wonderful game.

  2. Outta the two sets that you have chosen, I would recommend the Dunlop DDH.  This, as well as others, is a beginner set.  The DDH will help you with forgiveness the most.  However, when you do get better, you will need to upgrade clubs.  These clubs should get you down into the high 80's.  After that, if you want to improve, you must buy another set.  But for now, I would recommend the DDH.

  3. You cannot "Buy" a golf game! Horseshit swing, horseshit results - period.

Buy a set that you can afford and are comfortable with.

And take a lesson or two.  There are a number of members at my club that have been trying new equipment for years, spending close to $1000.00 and their handicaps keep going up. Take time to practice - mainly putting and the short game, and enjoy each and every round you play!

  4. dont waste you money on expensive set of clubs to start out. There are many sets of used clubs in like new condition available that you can purchase much cheaper than new.  that way if you find out you dont like the sport your not out much

  5. I agree with the Dunlop answer. Decent clubs, not much money.

If you've decided to take the plunge and make more of a commitment, I'd highly suggest you get fitted. The fit matters more than the brand. There aren't really any bad clubs on the market, but lots of folks getting frustrated playing with clubs that don't fit them. They can't reproduce the proper swing. They're too busy making compensations during their swing for ill fitting clubs.

Find a PGA Pro to fit you if you've really got the golf bug. You'll speed the learning curve and not have as much frustration as many beginners. While you're there book some lessons.

  6. my advise is to really think about if you want to take up golf. To many people get into it for the wrong reasons.

  7. As a beginner, it doesn't matter which brand of the ones provided on the links you get.  Once you get the basics down, then you can upgrade to a better brand.  You could close your eyes and point to one and it will do for now.

  8. I know this isn't answering your question exactly, but after looking at both of those links, I think you should get very good clubs now because as the first person said, these clubs will only get you to a certain point.  Buying one set of really nice clubs now is less expensive and more beneficial to your game than buying one of those sets of clubs and then in a few years having to buy new clubs again.  I suggest buying Callaway's X-20s.  They are very well made clubs, great distance, and very forgiving,

  9. the dunlop one but what you should do is to call a local store to see if they have the clubs you want and see if they let you try it out.

you can have a 300 dollar golf set and play horrible with it

you can have a 100 dollar golf set and play amazing with it

you shouldnt buy clubs online unless youve used them before in person and have a good feel of them
