  1. It tends to be called "Ethical Hacking".

There most certainly is room for the good guys of the hacking trade.

An ethical hacker will be employed, say, by a large organisation to "Intrusion test" their equipment.  The ethical hacker will have the prior permission of the client to perform a 'hack' on their network & detect any short-comings/failures in their security & report back the findings.

Thats one use of 'ethical hacking', but I'm sure you get the idea!

(Alot of money to be made in that field aswell, if you can do it!)

    Be good!

  2. White Hats (Experienced Hackers, Certified Hackers, Security System Hardeners)

    - Security Specialist

    - Data Security Specialist

    - Certified Ethical Hacker (Certification)

    - Information System Security Analyst

  3. Security admins make over 100k a year. Many companies are very interested in protecting their data. Not only is this a good job but it's in extremely high demand.

  5. The closest thing I can think of is going into the Computer Forensics field.  They work in the law enforcment field and breakdown computers, how they work, what causes them to do certain things, and break into computers to find evidence.

  6. And there are Good Hackers who are ex-bad hackers, or work for the Government and Military...

  7. its call ethical hacking and the people who create secuirity software have to know how to hack because if they didn't how could they test their product. So yes there are "good" hackers out there and when it comes down to it they usually know alot more then the idoits that actually try to hack.

  8. the very definition of hacker implies as such.

    hacker: n.

[originally, someone who makes furniture with an axe]

        1. A person who enjoys exploring the details of programmable systems and how to stretch their capabilities, as opposed to most users, who prefer to learn only the minimum necessary. RFC1392, the Internet Users' Glossary, usefully amplifies this as: A person who delights in having an intimate understanding of the internal workings of a system, computers and computer networks in particular.

        2. One who programs enthusiastically (even obsessively) or who enjoys programming rather than just theorizing about programming.

        3. A person capable of appreciating hack value.

        4. A person who is good at programming quickly.

        5. An expert at a particular program, or one who frequently does work using it or on it; as in ‘a Unix hacker’. (Definitions 1 through 5 are correlated, and people who fit them congregate.)

        6. An expert or enthusiast of any kind. One might be an astronomy hacker, for example.

        7. One who enjoys the intellectual challenge of creatively overcoming or circumventing limitations.
