  1. How much are you looking to spend?

No point recommending loads of cymbals over your budget.

    Check out www.mikedolbear.co.uk/forum too.

  2. Zildjian make the best cymbals on the market. All I use is Zildjian, and I have been using them for 20 years. That being said, Zildjian has some low end and high end models. I only use the A Customs, they are amazing and their sound can not be beat. These are one of their top of the line models. If you hit hard, the A Customs are more on the thin side which is why they sound so vivid and bright.

The Zildjian K series is thicker and has a darker sound compared to the A Customs, but they can handle more abuse. If the store you purchase them from offers an extended warranty against cracking, I would buy it. I play my cymbals on a daily basis and they seem to last on average 2 to 3 years before they crack.  The regular Avedis Zildjian model is their original top of the line model and they are very nice and very similar to the A Customs. As far as size goes, a good all around crash size is 17 inch.
