GPO and AD Advice!?

Hey guys,

A user of mine is asking me to set his resolution down on his monitor, and the problem is that he doesn’t have those permeations to those settings, I added him to the local administrator and logged back on to see if I could edit the display settings and it was still not available, so I’m thinking it’s a GPO problem where the Domain polices out rank the local, the thing is does anyone know where in the GPO I can edit the permission for display settings on users computers, your help would be greatly appreciated thank you.

  1. And you administer a LAN.... sheesh.

What is the OS of the desktop? Is it a client or a terminal under terminal services? If you use terminal services you set the resolution on the server > connection properties. If it is a pre-Windows 2000 client then you may have a System Policy set, as they do not use GPO.

If you have Windows 2000 server or later, then the resolution would be set under Default Domain Policy > Edit > User Configuration > Desktop > Active Desktop. Of course this is done on the Server-Domain Controler. Do you see the entry for "Prohibit Change". Enter gpupdate at the Start > Run prompt after done to update the domain policy.

There is also a Display Folder under User Configuration > Administrative Templates that will allow other changes to be made. Check that out too.

    Good Luck
