GPS receiver not functioning

Question

I got a Dopod 810 two years ago. Only recently I tried to load a GPS software. The software was loaded properly by professional. However, the program failed to run as it could not detect the device. I was told that my GPS receiver on my phone was faulty. I recalled when I bought the PDA, I was told that the GPS receiver is dormant. To use it I need to refresh the ROM. It is true that I need to do so before I can use my GPS program? If so where can I get help to refresh the ROM? Thank you very much. CL
