To find out about either government or private grants that will cover the expenses in legal fees, development, obtaining the patent, etc. on a new product that would be a great benefit to the environment, and also to the consumer?

  1. The Department of Energy has a grant called (CFDA #81.036) Inventions and Innovations whose objective is to "encourage the development and commercialization of energy-saving inventions by providing financial and technical assistance to projects that have a potential for significant energy savings and future commercialization markets through a competitive solicitation process."

Read through it to see if you qualify

If not search for other grants at the Catalog for Federal Domestic Assistance http://www.cfda.gov  and then apply for the grant by giving the CFDA number at Grants.gov http://www.grants.gov

  2. No.  You'd have more success getting a business loan.
