My husband woke up at 3am to go to work by 4. I remember he left with an ice cream sandwich in his hand so he was is definately the one at fault. This is the 2nd time he has done this! I was dozing back to sleep and I hear "drippppppp" and I woke up to see what it was and there was a small puddle in front of the freezer door. I opened it and there were drops of liquid on the top of the freezer ceiling and there were a few icicles starting to form. I felt the ice cream sandwiches to see how long the freezer was open and they were half frozen. The meat was still hard but had a lot of frost on it. The only thing besides him being irresponsible that I'm concerned about is its at my parents house (they're on vacation so we're house-sitting) and I'm wondering if they will have to throw the meat away when they come back sunday. I'd say it was open a good 30 minutes or so. Should things be ok? now I cant sleep wondering if "I" closed the freezer door properly. ::sigh::: today was a bad day!!!!

  1. its a little unusual to have an ice cream sandwich for breakfast. But i see a lot of this from people who are constantly eating,,,its like a drug,,,and the behavior is the same---get the ''fix'' and the h**l with everything else.

  2. I think the meat would be okay. I'd tell them about the meat and see what they think, it'd be better them throwing it away than getting sick! About the leak, try running some paper towels on a coat hanger under the fridge to soak up any water underneath. Maybe you should write a note to remember to close the freezer door and put it on the door. Try not to worry about it, people make simple mistakes a lot.

  3. If the meat was still hard, I think it will be fine.  I would be irritated too, but maybe something in the freezer shifted when he got his ice cream sandwich, and kept the door open.  I am sure he didn't mean it!

  4. Well, you could watch all the CSI reruns late at night to figure out the perfect way to kill him.............

Seriously, we have a lot of power outages in the mountains and I would love love love only a 30 minute outage.  So I am thinking that short of a time with the door open is ok.  Probably the ice cream is a goner, but if the meat etc was frozen solid, it should be ok.  I always keep my ice cream in the bottom of the side by side freezer because it melts first.  My rule is:  as soon as the power goes out - eat the ice cream.

The dripping noise could just be melting ice and is probably ok.

  5. Just tell him to close the d**n door! or HE WILL PAY FOR ANYTHING THAT GOES ROTTEN!
