GS Medical Park squeak past Olympiacos 78-77 in an O.T nail-biter - Euroleague Recap
In what was one of the most thrilling games of the Euroleague 2011-12 super sixteen round, GS Medical Park held their nerve to pull off a one point win over Olympiacos, to improve its record to 1-1 in the top 16.
Both Olympiacos and Park put up an excellent fight in the first 40 minutes of the game. Park were heading for a win, ahead by 69-66, with less than 30 seconds remaining in the game when Kostas Sloukas, drilled a magnificent under
pressure long range effort to make it 69 all and send the game to O.T.
First four minutes of the O.T were intense as neither team was willing to give up. Two free throws by Olympiacos got them ahead by 1 point 77-76. In the last minute, Jamon-Alfred Lucas netted a crucial game-deciding 2 pointer that
proved to be the difference between the teams in the end.
Olympiacos did get a fair amount of chances after that to turn the game in their favour. Three of their players attempted shots in the last 15-20 seconds, however neither managed to put one in the basket.
"About the three pointer I score at the buzzer, it was a miraculous moment for me. I did not have time to think about anything. I lifted my head, saw the time and throw the ball and said a prayer. I think god wanted me to score.
But in the overtime it was not the same. God thought the other way. It was a great personal highlight. But tomorrow nobody will remember it because we lost the game." Disappointed Sloukas said.
Park were mighty accurate with their shooting (56.1%) from the floor. Lucas led the Park with 17 points on 7 for 13 from inside the arc and 1-for-3 from the long range. Jaka Lakovic registered 16 points on 9-for-12 from the charity
stripe while Luksa Andric and Cevher Ozer pounded 10 apiece.
Vassilis Spanoulis marshalled the Greeks with a game high 24 points on 6 for 13 from the floor and a perfect 6 for 6 from the charity stripe and 6 boards. Georgios Printezis had 14 points on 4-for-5 from inside the arc while Kyle
Hines netted 11.
Sloukas also pounded 10 points including 2-for-4 from outside the arc for Olympiacos, who shot 48.7% from the floor and 21-for-27 from the free throw line.
