  1. Well this depends on your age if your a male athlete and you plan on skiing FIS next year you will have to go with a 185 cm ski to fit in with FIS regs. However if you are not FIS I would go with a smaller length ski with a softer flex because although you are aggressive you are fairly small person. I would say a 175 cm ski would do you good for J3's and you could probably stay with a 165 for J4's.

If your going to summer camps where you can demo skis, talk to some of the reps, they know the most about equipment and can help you pick the right skis. Be sure to try different brands because a rep will say you should be on their brand.

Also be sure to talk to your coaches they can give you some good advice since between the two of you nobody knows your skiing better.

  2. It depends on what level of competition you are in. FIS  rules set certain minimum lengths and turn radii for all classes of race ski and racers. Go to the FIS website and read the ski shape and length specifications if you are in sanctioned competition. For your height and weight, I would suggest a minimum length and a medium or soft flex to the ski.  You must be able to bend the ski in an arc throughout the turn to be successful.  For a very specific set of parameters, ask your coach, that is what he is paid for. His expertise with the current ski techniques and ski technology along with your skill level and ski style, will make him the best source for the information.  Talk to him when you both have some time to sit down and discuss what you need.

You did not mention your age, or region of competition. If you are racing junior class, the FIS specifications have some variance, also for seniors.  I would expect that you will be on a 150 to 160 cm ski with a 16M radius.  Do check the FIS and go to a local professional ski shop that specializes in race equipment.  Also try to attend a summer race camp where you can try several brands and lengths.  Remember that a poorly tuned ski will ski poorly while a proper tune will make any ski seem like a dream.

  3. A 170cm GS ski is probably right for you.  the turn radius of the ski is the more important thing.  FIS requires skis with a 21R.  this is pretty big.  you have to be a very strong skier to get these around in a tight GS course.  i would reccomend a 16 - 18R ski.
