GSOS U13: Jack Riddell overpowers Lloyd Holland to secure Men’s Singles crown – Badminton news
Jack Riddell, who is one of the most dedicated and promising shuttlers from Scotland, showed his tremendous craft on court and remained successful in securing Men’s Singles crown at the event of 2012 GSOS U13 in Scotland, on Sunday, September 2.
In the title match, the in-form Jack showed his elevated craft and defeated his lower ranked opponent Lloyd Holland in a spectacular contest that took three games of remarkable badminton from both contestants.
The impressive Jack, who was positioned at the top in the main draw in Men’s Singles category, had to employ all of his skills to overpower Lloyd who was the second seeded player in the tournament.
The top seeded Jack played good badminton but lost the opening set with a narrow margin as his rival played well. However, he powered his way back into the match by winning the second set and went on to claim the final game to end up the battle in 40 minutes.
On the other hand, the lower ranked Lloyd played competitive badminton in opening set and won it with a close difference. However, he failed to maintain his upper hand over his higher ranked opponent in the following games and lost the match in rubber sets
with a reasonable margin.
The opening game was interesting for the local fans as both shuttlers tried to play at their best speed and remained close until the end of first half.
After the break, they snapped each other’s heel by playing in the similar fashion and reached at 20-20 when Jack failed to play effective shots and lost the set with a 20-22 score on the board.
The second game was somewhat different as Jack remained dominant this time by playing positive and fast badminton. He was comfortably leading the score board until the mid-game interval.
After the break, Jack continued his impressive play and easily finished off the second set with a striking score of 21-15.
The deciding game was completely one-sided when Jack played with precision and easily pushed his rival on back foot. He remained successful in finishing up the final set with a lopsided 21-10 score on the board.
Jack won the title by beating Lloyd in a three-set final contest with a reasonable score of 20-22, 21-15 and 21-10.
