i just bought a epiphone special edition it is SG model. and well i was wondering is that a good guitar? i mean i know it is made by gibson so that was one of the reasons i picked it up in the first place. and well it was pretty cheap it was $200. and i know that if you really want a good guitar then the prices would range from $1000 (minimum) up. so i mean i know its not like a fender or anything. i jsut want to know in general would my guitar be considered good?? BTW its an electric.

thanks,

  1. The most important thing for you, because i'm guessing you're not going to be performing, is playability.  Even though Epiphones aren't as good as Gibsons, they are still a good quality guitar, and in my opinion are very close to Fenders.  SG's are good guitars and are light with skinny necks, making them easy to play.  I think you'll be just fine with this guitar.  Just invest in a decent amp (you can get one for $200) and your guitar will sound great!

And to whoever made the comment about Epiphones being made overseas (in Korea), they were completely right that they are made of lesser quality and of lesser craftsmanship that those made in the US, but they are still good guitars.

  2. Depends on what you want to play. Get a decent half-stack and maybe some sort of Boss pedal(DS-2 or Overdrive) and you'll get a really nice and clean sort of "crunch" out of it. It's definitely better than the squire that I started on...

Who cares where it's made? The sound is what matters. The guy below me is a d**k.

  3. Epiphones are made overseas. They are decent, but they aren't Gibsons, which are made in the USA
