I'm 14, 95 pounds, and 4'11". I'm mostly flexible and am very close to getting all three splits. I have strong legs (i run long distance) but i don't have much arm strength. I'm also a dancer. I have good balance and coordination, but i can't do flips or cartwheels. Am i too old to start gymnastics? And could i join competitive team before i graduate?

  1. you're never too old, but don't expect immediate results! and no olympics either :)

remember you need flexibility, arm strength, ab strength, and leg strength. what you have is really good - especially balance & coordination. my advice is train stuff on your arms/abs and keep working towards splits.

good luck gettng on a team x

  2. your not to old I am just starting gymnastics this year I am 12 and 5'3 I wouldn't worry to much about your strength or flexibility gymnastics classes with work on you with that. I didn't think I could to cartwheels and then when I signed up since I was older they asked me to show them I cartwheel I did a perfect one right then and there haha. Before you think about competitive you should take a beginner class or in my case I am taking an advanced beginner class for most gymnastics teams you have to try out or be invited  if it is try out obviously your always welcome but unless you have taken at least one class you probably won't make it but before you graduate I would say yes if it is something you wish to pursue.

  3. look hun this probably isn't what you want to hear but it is my opinion

well i don't think you would be good enough to make it through the levels and definitely not an elite gymnast my answer is because your 14 and most girls who make it to the olympics have started training when they were about 3 or younger so I'm really sorry and i know that i probably just shattered you but i thought i would be better off if i told the truth
