Gabor Boczko overcomes Grumier Gauthier in 2010-11 Men’s Epee World Ranking: Fencing News
Hungarian top fencer, Gabor Boczko captured the first place of 2010 World Silver Medallist, Grumier Gauthier, in 2010-11 Men’s Epee World Ranking. The International Federation of Fencing, Fédération Internationale d'Escrime (FIE) updated the ranking list
on May 25.
The Epee rankings were updated by the FIE on the basis of Men’s Epee Fencing World Cup tournaments conducted during the month of April and May. Gabor was on second place with 189 points in the April 3 rankings update, while Gauthier was leading all the Epee
fencers with 208 points. They participated in two Epee World Cup tournaments including Stockholm Grand Prix 2011 and Heidenheim Epee World Cup. Both events were lucky enough for Gabor to secure the first place in the World Ranking.
Gabor achieved 14 points at Heidenheim Epee World Cup on April 29, while he took 21 points in Stockholm Grand Prix on May 14 that lead him towards the top position. Gabor was ranked fifth in both events due to lost in quarterfinals.
The 2009-10 top ranked Gauthier is trying his best to retain his position. But he lost his top place in the current rankings due to poor performance in Heidenhiem and Stockholm tournaments. He lost his points from 208 to 186 after those events. During Heidenhiem,
he was ranked sixth while, during Stockholm, he was ranked shockingly 33rd. Jean-Michel Lucenay retained his April's third place with additional eight points. He gained 178 point in the April rankings updated by FIE. Here are the remaining top ten
