Gabor Kasa wins second stage and also takes overall lead in 2011 Tour de Serbie
Manisaspor Cycling team’s Gabor Kasa won the second stage and also took the overall leader’s jersey in 2011 Tour de Serbie on Tuesday, June 14.
The race started in Banja Koviljaca and ended in Pale. The 22-year-old Kosa took a total of 4 hours, 7 minutes and 6 seconds to cover the distance of 166.5 kilometres.
After finishing the stage, Kasa told the media, "It was very hard, when we caught a group that is nearly 110 kilometers fled, took a chance, they all heed Stevic, who has twice retired great, but then stopped, I countered, and rushed for about three kilometers to the finish."
Nikolay Mihaylov of Aix En Provence was the runner-up with 3 seconds behind Kasa. Ivan Stevic of the Partizan Powermove team was also in good form, but failed and grabbed third spot with the difference of 8 seconds.
Hening Bommel of LKT Brandenburg finished fourth ahead of Erwan Brenterch while the stage one winner, Angelo Furlan was in 94th place.
The first breakaway came from the group of four riders, which included, Martin Lind, Rene Joergensen, Romain Ramier and Nebojsa Jovanovic. All of them worked together and gained an advantage of few seconds over the peloton.
Martin Lind was in good form so he won the first and second sprint of the stage. When the race entered Sokolac, Martin was caught by the peloton and Andi Bajc won the final sprint ahead of Rene Joergensen.
The Danish rider, Joergensen won the only King of Mountain (KOM) title with 15 points ahead of Martin Lind and Andi Bajc.
Gabor took the overall lead with a timing of 6 hours, 40 minutes and 47 seconds, while Nikolay was in the second spot with 8 seconds behind Kasa. Ivan Stevic finished third with a difference of 15 seconds.
Ivan said, "Congratulations to Kasi, the great and responded well to have a yellow shirt. We will try to help him keep it. Stage was very difficult, we had to decline the Romanija rain and it was a very dangerous road was like glass.”
The next stage will start in Pale and end in Bajina Basta Tara. All the riders will cover a distance of 171.7 kilometres.
