Gabriel Agbonlahor signs new Aston Villa deal
Aston Villa striker Gabriel Agbonlahor has spoken of his delight at penning a new deal with the English Premier League club.
The England cap has signed a four-and-a-half-year extension with the Villans that ties him to the Birmingham-based side until June 2015.
Though Agbonlahor hit 16 goals for the club last term, he has struggled with injuries this season and has only played in seven games, scoring one goal.
However, the 24-year-old made his return from a groin injury when he came off the bench in the 64th minute of the 3-2 win over Blackpool at Villa Park on Wednesday 10 November.
He is now set to play against league giants Manchester United on Saturday 13 November and the striker was over the moon to extend his stay at the club he loves.
Agbonlahor, who rose through the ranks at Villa, told the club’s official website, "I can't see myself playing for any other club. I am happy and I just want to keep on playing for Villa. It's my childhood club and the one I support and love.
"I am happy to commit to the club. Hopefully, I can progress and keep improving on what I've done so far. It's important nowadays to not move from club to club. If you're happy at a club, stay there."
Agbonlahor made his debut for Villa in March 2006 following spells on loan at Sheffield Wednesday and Watford. He has barely looked back since, having gone on to score 52 times in almost 200 games for the club.
Villa boss Gerard Houllier revealed that he was pleased to have tied down the attacker on a long-term deal and is looking forward to helping the player develop into an England regular.
"I just want to make sure he keeps growing. He's a local boy, it's good to keep the roots sometimes and the target is to make him a regular player for the national team."
