Gabriel Fidelis Souza captures Men’s 200m breaststroke title – Jose Finkel Trophy
Gabriel Fidelis Souza of PRAIA CLUBE captured gold medal of the Men’s 200m breaststroke on first day of the 2012 Jose Finkel Trophy in Sao Paulo, Brazil on Monday, August 20.
Souza showed no mercy to his opponents in the four-lap breaststroke discipline as he dominated his way in the playoff and proved his mettle for top spot on the podium.
With his continuous efforts, he remained marginally ahead of his closest opponent and tapped the wall for gold medal with an effort of 2 minutes and 06.82 seconds.
The gold medallist was followed by Tales Rocha Cerdeira of CRF/RJ, who remained only 0.14 seconds slower and stepped on the victory stand for silver medal by producing a time of 2 minutes and 06.96 seconds.
Cerdeira was chased by his teammate, Henrique Marques Barbosa, who stayed almost full body length behind and secured bronze medal of the discipline by reporting a time of 2 minutes and 07.79 seconds.
The bronze medallist was trailed by Thiago Teixeira Simon of CORINTHIANS/ABDEM, who remained just 0.19 seconds slower from his former finisher and clocked an effort of 2 minutes and 07.98 seconds for fourth position.
Fifth fastest spot of the race was obtained by Thiago M Parravicini of CRF/RJ, who was 0.67 seconds away from his former finisher and hit the wall with a timing of 2 minutes and 08.65 seconds.
Parravicini was traced by Felipe Ferreira Lima of FIAT/MINAS, who was 1.09 seconds slower and concluded his swim in a time of 2 minutes and 09.74 seconds for sixth position.
Seventh position of the event was obtained by Raphael Oliveira Rodrigues of ECP/SABESP, who stayed 1.01 seconds slower from his preceding swimmer and clocked a time of 2 minutes and 10.75 seconds.
Last spot of the event was secured by Felipe Costa da Cunha of CRF/RJ, who stayed two body lengths behind and made his way to the finishing wall as eighth fastest swimmer with an effort of 2 minutes and 12.90 seconds.
In addition, Souza was delighted with his gold finish in the event while the championship will end on August 25.
