Gabriel Gonzaga takes on debutant Shane del Rosario on UFC 146 – UFC news
Gabriel Gonzaga, the former Ultimate Fighting Championship’s (UFC) number one heavyweight title contender, has been scheduled to take on the surging Shane del Rosario in a non-title brawl on UFC 146 on May 26, 2012.
The two men will brawl in the heavyweight division at the MGM Grand Garden Arena situated in Las Vegas, Nevada. The pay-per-view will be headlined by the bout between Junior Dos Santos and Alistair Overeem whereas the brawl between Edson Barboza and Evan
Dunham will co-headline the special edition.
Gabriel, 32, is coming from a convincing and authoritative submission win over Ednaldo Oliveira. Infamous as the ‘Napao’, the Brazilian brawler has entered in the octagon a total 19 times. He has collected 13 wins, eight by submission and five by knocking
out his opponents cold.
A glance at the Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belt holder reveals that he is a submission specialist and tries to nail his opponent in just the initial rounds. Gabriel is among those men who have the honour to brawl against names such as Randy Couture, Fabricio
Werdum and others.
Gabriel has grabbed wins over Josh Hendricks and Mirko Filipovic by brutal knockouts. He definitely overshadows the young emerging American Shane. Del Rosario who follows the kick boxing style will enter in UFC octagon for the very first time in his mixed
martial art career.
Shane boasts an invincible streak by winning all of his 11 encounters. He has successfully ruled the heavyweight division of UFC’s sister company Strikeforce. Rosario, well known as ‘No Limits’ boasts submission win over names such as Lavar Johnson and Brandon
Cash.
The 28-year-old has collected eight of his wins by kayo and just three by submission. In addition he also has an intimidating kickboxing record of eight wins in a total nine brawls. Shane will have to be careful since Gabriel is a master in Brazilian jiu-jitsu.
Moreover he has quality experience to back him up.
Gabriel on the other hand will either have to be more resilient to absorb the hard hitting of the young American or should swiftly try to move forward to end the brawl on a winning note by executing a submission move. Otherwise if he makes the mistake of
giving leverage to the knockout specialist Shane, he might have to regret the decision in the form of a loss.
