New A.S Roma signing, Gabriel Heinze is honoured to join an ambitious club and wants to win trophies at Stadio Olimpico Rome.
Heinze joined the Giallorossi on a free transfer yesterday and became their fifth new signing of the season. The 33-year-old is looking forward to play for a new team in new league and can’t wait to kick start the 2011/12 season.
The Argentine is feeling honoured to play for Roma and did not have any hesitation in saying yes when the offer came from the club.
The former Manchester United defender is excited with the ambitions of the club and is confident that he will gel in well with other new signings.
Heinze said, "For me, wearing the jersey of Roma is an honour. I have [been] lucky enough to play in big clubs, now I have been given this new challenge and I did not hesitate [for] a second to say yes - I am proud to have the
chance to prove myself in this country and this team.”
"The project is ambitious and appealing; Giallorossi have a good mix of experienced and young players. Bojan [Krkic] and [Erik] Lamela are great players who are hungry for success in Rome, which [will help] the whole group," he
continued.
The defender is delighted to join another big club in his career and believes that Roma is as big as his previous teams. Heinze has been a top player for English Champions, Manchester United, and Spanish giants, Real Madrid. He
then played for French side, Olympique Marseille, and spent two years in Ligue 1. Heinze has won major trophies for all of the three mentioned sides and was also voted as the best Manchester United player of the 2005 season.
The Argentine international is excited to team-up with his national side team-mate, Nicolas Burdisso, and believes he is very supportive and will help him to adjust at Rome. Heinze’s versatility of playing in different defensive
positions will also be a huge advantage for Luis Enrique.
