Gabriel Landeskog shines again as Colorado Avalanche win third straight over Ottawa Senators 7-1-NHL
Gabriel Landeskog, Colorado’s 2011 National Hockey League (NHL) second overall entry draft pick, proved why he truly was regarded as the most NHL-ready by scoring his second goal in two straight matchups, leading the Avalanche to a commanding, 7-1 victory
over Ottawa Senators, Thursday night at the sold-out Scotiabank Place in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada.
In his first match of the season against his former team, Ottawa goalie Craig Anderson failed to find his game.
"We weren't at our best", Anderson said. "It's a game about momentum and when you lose momentum how do you get it back and obviously we didn't get it back very often".
Penalties were another factor in the Senators loss as they gave-off six power play opportunities throughout the match, out of which Colorado connected on four of them, while Ottawa managed to capitalise only on one out of four chances.
Milan Michalek scored his third of the scored his third of the season on their first power play opportunity off a pass by Erik Karlsson.
Colorado’s veteran forward, Milan Hejduk followed by making the equaliser nearly three minutes later with three seconds remaining on their added man advantage. The Swedish rookie, Gabriel Landeskog scored 1:21 later and took the lead for his team.
Joakim Lindstrom scored Colorado to give them a 3-1 lead to the end the second period, with the crowd still anticipating a comeback in round-three.
What the crowd was about to witness in the final period was something they would wished to never have experienced as Matt Duchene, Daniel Winnik, David Jones and Joakim Lindstrom all scored back-to-back on power plays, except Winnik who scored amazingly
shorthanded.
"It's always important to get everyone going", said Landeskog. "Tonight was one of those nights where you got the bounces and gave us confidence to move forward".
Seeing how they lost, it was hard for Ottawa coach, Paul MacLean, not to give the Colorado team credit.
"They were better than us in every situation and we didn't play well from the start to the finish and we have a ways to go", MacLean said.
The Avalanche hope to continue their winning streak against Montreal Canadiens on Saturday while Ottawa looks for a win against Washington Capitals the same day.
