Gabriel Rosado for Sechew Powell: It is just what I needed – Boxing News
Gabriel Rosado was previously scheduled to fight Joel Julio on June 1, but now Julio has been replaced with Sechew Powell. According to Rosado, this is something he has been waiting for and something he needed badly. Rosado and Powell will clash for the
vacant WBO Inter-Continental Junior Middleweight championship at the Sands Casino Resort Resort Bethlehem in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania.
When asked about the fight, Rosado said, “At first I wasn’t crazy about fighting a lefty, but the junior middleweight division is full of them so it all turned out for the better. I’m talking about Paul Williams, James Kirkland, Erislandy Lara. These are
guys I need to get in there with so fighting Sechew Powell is another step down that road. I’m getting plenty of good work at the Wild Card and I feel good and I’m looking forward to proving myself again. I know a lot of people are skeptical, saying that the
last guy I beat (Jesus Soto-Karass) was made to order for me. We’ll see if they right or wrong after June 1.”
Rosado made his career debut in 2006. He fought 17 bouts as an amateur. Currently, he stands with 19 wins and 5 losses with 11 knockouts, whereas Powell stands with 26 wins, 4 losses and 15 knockouts. Rosado is ranked as the number 5 pugilist worldwide by
IBF and number 9 by WBC. He has won his last five fights whereas Powell has lost his last fight against Cory Spinks.
Even though Powell has been replaced on a short notice, he still feels he has enough time to get ready for the fight. Since he was notified, he has been in his training camp with his partner Delvin Rodriguez. It should be noted here that Delvin Rodriguez
is scheduled to face Austin Trout on June 2 for the junior middleweight title.
Rosado and his trainer Billy Briscoe are now in California to promote the fight and to train at Freddie Roach’s Wild Card Gym in Los Angeles. Rosado is confident that this bout will be a major career uplift for him and he will beat Powell easily.
