Gabriel Skoczek, Achille Nebout retain lead as Nicklas Dackhammar, Fredrik Bergström move up
Gabriel Skoczek and Achille Nebout celebrated another good day, as they retained their lead overall with six points despite their poor performance in the third race of 470 Junior European Championship 2011.
The Swedish 470 Men's team comprising of Nicklas Dackhammar and Fredrik Bergström have also managed to move up in the standings with their convincing performances at the Nieuwpoort in Belgium.
The second day of 470 Junior European Championships featured two races under more windy conditions than Day 1. The breeze gusted around 22 knots across the racing area on Nieuwpoort waters in Belgium, as the sailors sailed in both races of the day.
The French 470 sailing team struggled in the first race and finished in 19th place but right in the next race they bounced back to cross the finish line in second place. Fortunately for them, they retained their overall lead in the regatta with
six points after four races.
On the other hand, the Swedish team, comprising of Nicklas Dackhammar and Fredrik Bergström have made it into the top five with superb sail on Day 2. They took a third place in the first race, while a brilliant sail in the second with first position brought
them into the event.
While speaking to the local media at the end of the day, Bergstrom said, “The current was different from yesterday, so we had very long upwinds and shorter downwinds – we liked it.”
