Gael Kakuta extends contract with Chelsea
Gael Kakuta has signed a new contract with Chelsea. Kakuta’s contract was set to expire by the end of the season and the youngster had recently been linked with a move away from the English champions. However, Kakuta has now signed a new four-and-a-half
year deal with http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/U-17-Youth-team-c40787 level,
winning the Academy Player of the Year award in his first season with the club.
Due to Kakuta’s stellar performances, the youngster started training with the first team the following season. He has yet to secure his place in the starting eleven since manager Carlo Ancelotti prefers to play http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Daniel-Sturridge-c10076
ahead of the youngster. However, Kakuta has caught the eye of the Chelsea boss in the few games he has played for the first team. In his Champions League debut against APOEL, the striker put in a fantastic performance. Carlo Ancelotti was impressed, saying,
“(Kakuta) will be the future of Chelsea.”
In September 2009, Kakuta found himself at the centre of controversy. The player was banned for four months and fined 780,000 Euros when he was found guilty of a breach of contract with his old club FC Lens. Lens had previously accused Chelsea of inducing
Kakuta to break his contract with the French club in order to sign for the Blues. Chelsea were also banned from signing any new players for the next two transfer windows. However, the English champions appealed the decision and the ruling was later overturned.
Chelsea officials obviously think highly of the player. The new contract will keep Kakuta at the club until 2015. The former Lens player is quite positive following the announcement of the deal, saying, “Now I have been playing a few times with the first
team and I have signed for four-and- a-half more years, I have to make a way for myself into the starting 11 and make my dream come true. It's my job to do my best and try to play more often and show the coach that I am good enough to play in the team.”
