Question:

Gaelic Football tickets?

We are traveling to Ireland in May. I would love to see a gaelic football match. It does not have to be professional, a local league would be fine. When and where do matches take place? Where can I find a list of events, and tickets if needed?

(I will be in Dublin and primarily the south.)

  1. all club championships (local leagues) finish up long before may. some of the players join their county teams for the all-Ireland championship which starts this year on 11th may. the games take place all over Ireland. (one takes place in new york, USA and another in London, UK).

there is 2 games (Kildare v Wicklow and Meath v Carlow) on the 18th of may in "croke park" which is in central Dublin but on the north side of it, tickets for gaa games go on sale on  -

    www.ticketmaster.ie

about a week before the game is due to take place.

or off the county board of the teams concerned.

Kildare and Meath supporters travel in droves, croke park's capacity is 82,300, so you could still get a ticket.

    http://www.gaa.ie/page/fixtures_may_2008...

that is the gaa's website for the fixtures but all the teams are written in Irish, but where the game takes place is in English.

as you are staying in Dublin you can look at the leinster gaa website (same province as Dublin) -

    http://leinster.gaa.ie/fixtures/leinster...

parnell park and croke park are the two main stadiums in Dublin

people from the south side of Dublin aren't really into gaa (gaelic football and hurling) they are more into rugby.

  2. Im from Waterford and during the summer months - June/July/August is when the hurling season kicks off, with the All Ireland and the Munster Championship...Its a pity you wont be here then, because the best thing ever is going to watch a match on a sunday morning in Thurles - the athmosphere in Thurles square before the matches are electric!!

I am not sure about any exact matches during May yet....but you normally wont need to book in advance or buy in advance (unless it was a big match) - you could show up on the day and get in fine....just ask around when you get here to find out about matches
