Gaetan Bille wins second stage of the Rhone-Alpes Isere Tour 2011 – Cycling news
Gaetan Bille of the Wallonie Bruxelles team won the second stage of the Rhone-Alpes Isere Tour 2011 on Friday.
The event started in Charvieu-Chavagneux and ended in Toussieu. The Belgian Gaetan Bille took a total of 3 hours, 48 minutes and 07 seconds to cover the distance of 159 kilometres.
Nicolas Baldo of the Atlas Personal team was the runner-up and his team-mate Laurent Beuret finished third 3 seconds behind Bille.
Damien Cigolotti, Christian Poos and Jerome Cousin were in fourth, fifth and sixth place, respectively.
Previously, in 2004 the 23-year-old Gaetan won the championship of Wallonia in Cadets. Recently he won the Zellik-Galmaarden award. Yesterday, he was in second place in opening stage.
This race was very hard for the cyclists because there were three sprints and four mountains.
The stage was animated by three different break-aways including the latest break made up by the group of five riders; Jeremy Roy (FDJ), Jerome Cousin (Europcar), Christer Rake (Joker-Merida), Thomas Vedel Kvist (Glud & Marstrand), Lasse Bochmann, and Justin Jules (La Pomme-Marseille) in the last 20 kilometres from the finish.
With 13.4 kilometres to go, Jerome Cousin took a lead in the last sprint of the race and gained advantage of four points ahead of Justin Jules and Christer Rake.
In the first mountain of the race Julien Antomarchi, Jemery Roy and Thibaut Pinot were took a lead but Julien Antomarchi gained four points ahead of two cyclists.
Frederik Wilmann of Joker Merdia showed his good performance in the stage and was in first spot in the third climb of the day. However, but after 114.6 kilometres, Jemey Roy maintained his speed and won the only KOM of the day ahead of Thibaut Pinot.
Gaetan Bille also took a lead in the overall classification with timing of 7 hours, 38 minutes and 48 seconds. The stage one winner Sylvain Georges was in second place with 9 second behind Gaetan.
Nicolas Baldo finished third with a difference of 15 seconds while Thibaut Pinot came fourth with 17 seconds adrift.
The next stage will start in Chaponnay and end in St.Maurice-l’Exil. All the riders will cover the distance of 150 kilometres during the stage.
