Gaganjeet Bhullar aims to squeeze up in the Official World Golf Rankings
After spending a successful season on the Asian Tour in 2012, Gaganjeet Bhullar has now set his sights on improving his position in the Official World Golf Rankings.
Prior to the start of the 2012 golf season, the Indian youngster was ranked around 400th in the standings.
He then made a strong charge in the list by claiming two Asian Tour victories, along with seven other top-10 finishes.
His victories came at the Yeangder Tournament Players Championship and the Venetian Macau Open, increasing his Asian Tour wins’ tally to four.
At the end of the season, he found himself holding the 89th position in the Official World Golf Rankings.
While talking to the reporters, he said that he will try to make it into the top-50, by the end of the 2013 golf season. According to him, he will have to maintain consistency in his game, which will allow him taking his game to the upper level.
"I played really well this year. I started the season around 400th in the world and right now I think I am 89 and that is a big jump this year. The goal is definitely to be in the top 50 and then top 10. And I will be working hard to take my game to the next level," he said.
The 24-year-old is currently preparing himself to participate in the inaugural edition of the Shubhkamna Champions golf tournament, an event hosted by the legendary Jeev Milkha Singh.
Earlier this year, Singh proposed an idea to his sponsors to stage the ‘tournament of champions’. The sponsors agreed to his idea and the tournament is now set to feature some of the best players in the world of golf.
The INR6 million event will feature a total of 30 players, including 10 International tour members and 20 winners of 2012 PGTI tournaments.
Arjun Atwal, Daniel Chopra, Jyoti Randhawa, Shiv Kapur, Anirban Lahiri and Himmat Rai are some of the big guns who have confirmed to participate in this year’s edition of tournament.
"There are lot of big names this week. All I am thinking of to just do my bit, keep my mind focused and fingers crossed that I will win the trophy," Bhullar said.
