Gaganjeet Bhullar and Shankar Das share the lead at Aircel Players Championship of India
The second round of the Aircel Professional Golf Tour of India event of Players Championship concluded today at the scene par-72 Chandigarh Golf Club with Gaganjeet Bhullar and Shankar Das tied at the top of the leader board. Asian Tour member Bhullar improved
his position on the second day by carding a round of two-under par 70. The inexperienced Das shot a round of four-under par 68 which puts him in tie with Bhullar for the two-day lead.
28-year-old Das only posted a single win last year and was tied at the eight spot after the first round yesterday. Today, he was in exquisite touch in his bogey-free round throughout the day and was stroking the ball well on the greens. His scorecard shows
his brilliant play on the second day which includes four birdies and fourteen pars. He was birdie-free on his first nine but made a comeback on the back nine and had four birdies.
The youngster Bhullar who is also an Asian Tour member had a rather moderate round of two-under par for the day which was enough to post his name on the top of leader board. His score card showed three birdies and a lone bogey which came on the long par-5,
2nd where he failed to make a par and three putted on the green. He was second after the first round concluded and came up to the expectations of many as shares a lead in the tournament. The 22 year missed a few birdie putts during his round and
is hoping to maintain his lead for the next two rounds.
There is a four way tie for the third position which includes Zamal Hossain Mollah of Bangladesh, Chiragh Kumar, Abhinav Lohan and Vjiay Kumar. Mollah of Bangladesh recently changed his status to professional and is performing up to the expectations of his
coach. He carded a round of three-under par which included four birdies and a single bogey. Lohan and Mollah were tied for the 17th spot on the first day but made a move up the leader board. Lohan also had the same score of three-under par 69.
The overnight leader Shamim Khan was pressurised by the situation who slipped on the second day. Khan was rather wayward in his approach shots and was not comfortable with his hitting. He had a double-bogey on the longest par-5,7th where his drive
was way off the fairway. After that, he failed to make birdies on the next holes. Khan was disappointed after his round and is hoping to regain his lead on the third day.
Some fireworks were expected from the Asian Tour members Shiv Shankar Prasad Chowrasia and Jeev Milka Singh but both the players were not able to curb the challenge of their opponents. The third day will commence from tomorrow and Bhullar is expected to
lift the trophy and the winner’s purse.
