Gaganjeet Bhullar back on track at the World Golf Championships – HSBC Champions
Indian star Gaganjeet Bhullar is back on track at the World Golf Championships – HSBC Champions, after firing a four-under par 68 in the second round, to move into the share of the 27th place, on Friday, November 2, 2012.
The US$7 million tournament is co-sanctioned by the PGA Tour, European Tour and the Asian Tour, and is the richest golf tournament held on the Asian soil.
Bhullar, the two-time Asian Tour winner this season, struggled with his putter on Thursday and posted a disappointing one-over par 73 first-round score.
According to the golf commentators, the reason behind Bhullar’s poor performance in the opening was his absence in the practice round on Wednesday.
Due to the Visa snag, the 24-year-old arrived late in China, which restrained him from participating in the practice round.
As a result, he was not able to make accurate calculations during the first round and conceded four bogeys against three birdies.
On the other hand, the second round witnessed him add five shots to his scorecard, while suffering only a single bogey.
Talking to the reporters at the Olazabal Course, Bhullar stated that he will get used to the course conditions as the tournament progresses.
“It seems like the game is coming back. Today, I hit the ball so good,” he said. “It was quite surprising to see myself missing so many putts. Two more days, hopefully I’ll start reading the greens a bit better. I’m looking forward to shooting some low digits”.
After completing his round, he went straight to the practice putting green, in order to tweak his short game.
He said that the greens at the Olazabal Course were completely different to those where he plays throughout the season.
According to him, the key to success at Mission Hills is to read the greens well in the first two rounds and apply the experience on the weekend.
“After playing 36 holes on these greens, I have a better idea for tomorrow’s round,” he said. “I’m going back to work on my 10 to 12 footers. That’s the goal tomorrow. If I put those in, I’ll be right in it. ...You never know, just a few more good rounds
and you’ll be up there”.
