Gaganjeet Bhullar calls Venetian Macau Open win as the best of his 2012 Asian Tour campaign
Indian star Gaganjeet Bhullar has said that winning the Venetian Macau Open was the highlight of his campaign in the 2012 golf season.
The 2012 edition of the tournament witnessed Bhullar taking home the prestigious title after he defeated Jonathan Moore with a two-stroke margin.
In 2011, the Indian youngster made 22 starts on the Asian Tour and recorded nine top-10 finishes, including five top-five finishes and took the runner-up’s positions two times.
In addition to his victory in the Venetian Macau Open, he also won the Yeangder Tournament Players Championship. As a result, he finished fifth in the Asian Tour Order of Merit.
Talking to the Asian Tour’s official website, he said that he enjoyed his experience on the tour last year. He also admitted that he will have to learn a number of things, in a bid to make further progress in his career.
While stating the reason behind naming the Venetian Macau Open victory as the best of his season, he said that it proved his ability to record victories internationally.
“The victory at the Venetian Macau Open was the highlight of the season. Every victory is special but the win in Macau was very special because I won it wire-to-wire. I’ve done that a couple of times in India but to do it on the international level proves
that you are a frontrunner,” he said.
According to him, he remained patient throughout the year and his efforts paid him off in the end in the form of a number of strong finishes added to his resume.
“I’ve been trying to stay patient for a long time and I think I handled it well. Patience will definitely help me over the years,” Bhullar said.
He now plans to tweak his short game in the off season, in a bid to perform better in the upcoming events. He believes that his short game let him down on some occasions. Therefore, it is the best time to work on his putting technique.
“I would love to practice day-in and day-out on my short game and bring it up to a higher level,” he said.
