Gaganjeet Bhullar finishes tied for the 18th position at the HSBC Champions
Indian Gaganjeet Bhullar finished tied for the 18th position at the last World Golf Championship of the season, the HSBC Champions, after carding a 12-under par tournament score.
The tournament was held at the prestigious Mission Hills Golf Club, and was the only WGC of the season staged on the Asian soil.
Entering the final round on Sunday, the talented Indian was sharing the eighth position on the leaderboard, thanks to his third-round heroics for a nine-under par 63.
However, his game on the greens disappointed him over the last 18 holes. Throughout the day, he remained flawless with his game off the tee and with his irons.
In total, he hit 15 greens-in-regulations. However, his putter remained cold throughout the day.
Unlike his performance on Saturday, when he used only 21 putts, he utilized 32 putts to complete his final round.
“Today and yesterday’s round wasn’t that much of a difference. I had some good luck bounces yesterday but today I was pretty flat,” he said.
“I hit 15 greens in regulations and made some good up and downs. It was one of those easy-going rounds, fairway, greens and two putt. It would have been much better if I holed those 15, 20 footer putts”.
He added, “I had so many opportunities from the middle of the fairway on the par fives but it wasn’t enough. I was aiming for 64 but I did not even come close. That’s golf”.
He also stated that he will try to forget what happened in the final round and will focus on the upcoming Singapore Open.
According to him, his experience of playing two PGA Tour sanctioned events in a row will provide him some confidence while contending in Singapore.
The 24-year-old has won a total of two Asian Tour events this season and is regarded as one of the favourites to win the event this week.
Furthermore, he now aims to surge to the top of the Asian Tour Order of Merit. With five events left on the Asian Tour roster, Bhullar still holds a chance of achieving his target. He currently lists fifth in the standings.
