Gaganjeet Bhullar leads the Yeangder Tournament Players Championship after two rounds
Indian star Gaganjeet Bhullar stormed to the top of the leaderboard, at the Yeangder Tournament Players Championship, after he recorded a three-under par 69 in the weather-delayed second round on Sunday.
Bhullar, who posted a spectacular 66in the opening round of the Asian Tour event, being played at the Linkou International Golf and Country Club, remained the star performer in the second round as well, keeping his rivals at a distance.
He got off to a perfect start, as he recorded a birdie on the first hole, followed by an amazing eagle on the fourth hole.
He then conceded a bogey on the seventh hole and managed to offset that with a birdie on the 10th hole.
The 14th hole witnessed him falter badly on the course and he signed for a double bogey six and moved back to a one-under par score for the round.
“I hit it to the right of the woods and laid it up short of the green. The lie was too fluffy and my club just went underneath. I was four-on and then I had like a five-footer to save five but I missed that,” said Bhullar.
Despite suffering a huge hiccup on the 14th, he controlled his emotions and surged to the top of the leaderboard with a run of two consecutive birdies on the last two holes of the day.
“Trust me. The last two birdies were definitely much needed to ease the pressure. I played well today considering the last two days I was just sitting in my room and couldn’t do anything,” said Bhullar.
Thaworn Wiratchant, in the meantime, remained in contention, after taking the second position with an eight-under par overall score.
The Thai star started off his second round with a 12th place in hand. However, his strong performance for a six-under par 66 allowed him to make a strong charge on the leaderboard.
As the inclement weather forced the officials to shorten the tournament to three rounds, Bhullar is now ready to give a tough time to his rival in the final round, in a bid to hold the third Asian Tour title of his career.
