Gaganjeet Bhullar wins his third Asian Tour title at the Yeangder Tournament Players Championship
Indian Gaganjeet Bhullar stunned the spectators on the final day of the Yeangder Tournament Players Championship, as he won the tournament with a four-stroke margin over Thaworn Wiratchant of Thailand.
Bhullar was thrilled to outplay his rivals with such ease, as not a single player succeeded in challenging him on the leaderboard on the final day.
Being just 24 years old, the Indian bagged plenty of appreciation because the field was quite strong, featuring some of the best players on the tour.
The biggest threat Bhullar faced was from Wiratchant, who was enjoying a great form on the tour. The Thai was among the hot favourites for a win in the tournament.
However, Bhullar started showing his excellence, right from the beginning of the tournament. He recorded an amazing six-under par 66 in the opening round and followed it by a 69 in the weather-delayed second round.
Due to the inclement weather, the tournament officials decided to shorten the event to just three rounds. Therefore, Bhullar started his final round campaign with just one stroke ahead of Wiratchant.
On the final day, the young Indian star recorded another good round of 69 and took home the third Asian Tour title of his career.
According to him, he found it hard to focus on his putting on a few holes, as the greens were a bit out of their shape because of the heavy rains in the past couple of days.
However, he held his nerves under control and produced scores well enough to outshine his opponents in style.
He also stated that he saved a number of par putts, which contributed to a great extent in his victory.
“The par saver and tournament saver would be the putt on the 14th. I also saved another par on the 15th which was really good. Those two putts gave me lots of confidence and I told myself that if I can hole these two, I can hole a long putt for a birdie
and that was what exactly happened on the 16th,” said Bhullar.
