Gaggenau fryer won't heat

Question

this is a built into kitchen counter deep fryer. after a power outage and surge the fryer developed a blinking "0" on the digital display. owner manual does not mention this so it does not seem to be a code. The timer and thermostat controls don't work and the unit won't heat up.Gaggenau model # VF230-610I bought a new power supply module which switches on the heating element. No change. the 240 v 2300 watt heating element reads 23 ohms with a multimeter check. so I don't think it is the element.the only other components are the digital display and two rotating mechanical switches that control the timer and thermostat. What do you think? I think the next step is to change the digital display? Does anyone have any ideas?
