  1. I have the canon elura 65. It's a minidv camera.

If you have a mini dv (cassette) camcorder….

Your dv camcorder needs a firewire connection (ieee 1394) in order to download video, your PC probably did not come with a firewire port, so you will have to buy one and install it, since most computers (except possibly brand new) don't come with a firewire port, your camcorder did not come with a firewire cord so you have to purchase a cord too. Your camcorder did come with a USB cord and that is used for downloading stills from your camcorder. Make sure your camera is in playback mode.

  2. The Canon Elura 80 is a GREAT miniDV tape based camcorder.

You just need the right tools.

If you want to transfer video from this miniDV tape based camcorder, then you need to install a firewire port in your computer. Connect the camcorder's DV port to the firewire port on the computer and use a firewire cable. Firewire, IEEE1394a and i.Link are all the same thing.

USB will not work. A firewire to USB converter will not work. It will not appear in "My Computer".

Once you get the firewire port installed and connect the camcorder's DV (not USB) port to the firewire compter port with the firewire cable, launch MovieMaker and "Capture" the video.
